A captivating new entry into the gaming landscape has emerged: Off the Grid, a free-to-play, third-person Battle Royale game developed by Gunzilla. This innovative title is now accessible on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via the Epic Games Store as it enters early access.
Set against the backdrop of Teardrop Island—a dystopian locale forsaken by three fictional technology behemoths—players find themselves thrust into a reality-show-inspired arena, where survival against formidable opponents is the ultimate goal.
While the gameplay mechanics mirror those of traditional Battle Royale games, Off the Grid distinguishes itself with several unique features. The early access trailer evokes a feeling reminiscent of The Hunger Games, portraying what it calls the “first globally broadcast Battle Royale,” yet it embraces a grittier and darker tone.
In this Cyberpunk-infused universe, human players undergo a transformative process where their limbs are not only regenerated but also replaced with advanced cybernetic combat appendages. Technicians are on hand to revive players from the brink of death, allowing them to re-enter the fray.
Throughout the matches, players can exchange their limbs, each possessing distinct abilities, by defeating foes or discovering them in crates scattered across the map. At present, the primary mode offered is a thrilling 60-player Battle Royale format, where participants compete in teams of three.
Additionally, the official Off the Grid website has disclosed the existence of “an immersive 60-hour campaign,” unfolding concurrently with the Battle Royale matches, further enriching the gameplay experience. Players can also expect “a mind-blowing number” of customizable weapon options to enhance their arsenals.
Off the Grid is also venturing into the realm of cryptocurrency, enabling players to mint rare weapons and items as NFTs that can be traded or sold. This ambitious project is built around the forthcoming GUN token on the Avalanche blockchain.
As players embark on missions, they can earn GUN tokens; however, with the game still in early access, purchasing additional tokens is not currently feasible, leaving fans curious about future integrations, especially on console platforms.
