In recent reports, Kim Richards is confronting difficulties after years of openly discussing her battles with addiction. TMZ reveals that a dispute between Kim and her sister, Kyle Richards, erupted this past week, centering around Kim’s relapse into alcohol dependency.
A representative from the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that officers responded to an incident on September 25 in Encino, where Kyle owns a residence that Kim had been occupying. The LAPD stated that officers were called to “keep the peace” following a report of a restraining order violation. However, upon investigation, they found no restraining order on record and concluded that no crime had occurred.
Authorities indicated, “Both parties were informed of the eviction process, and officers maintained order,” but they could not specifically verify the involvement of Kim and Kyle in the altercation. A manager representing the sisters has yet to respond to inquiries from PEOPLE.
Earlier this month, Kim, now 60, had been residing in a Hilton hotel before being placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold due to her “incoherent” behavior, leading to a hospital stay. Following her release, Kyle, aged 55, reportedly offered her home as a refuge for Kim to aid her recovery. However, the family has since cut off all contact with Kim in hopes that this distance will facilitate her path to sobriety.
Throughout her journey, Kim Richards has been candid about her alcohol addiction, a narrative that has been extensively chronicled on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. In 2010, Kyle publicly acknowledged Kim’s struggles with alcoholism during the show’s inaugural season. A year later, Kim entered rehabilitation and again in April 2015 after an arrest for public intoxication. Although she briefly left a Malibu treatment center for her daughter’s wedding in May 2015, she returned just two weeks later.
In March 2016, Kim recounted to PEOPLE how her drinking began at the age of 24, exacerbated by the dissolution of her second marriage to Gregg Davis in 1991. She reminisced about starting with a nightly glass of wine, which gradually escalated. “I started noticing I was drinking a lot,” she remarked. “That’s when my issue started.”
Months later, in December, Kim expressed her gratitude for her sobrkim richards happened, and it wasn’t,” she shared with PEOPLE. “It wasn’t just my relapse that was hard, but I went through a depression as well after that.”
Reflecting on her current state, Kim stated, “I’m just so grateful to be where I am today, and to be this happy, to have a good life and meaningful relationships… I feel so blessed. I feel powerful. I feel so grateful. Honestly. Life is so amazing today. I wake up happy. I go to sleep happy.”
